I want to share a suggestion that I offered to a person on Twitter!

Yesterday I recieved a private message from a young man that ask me to reach out to him, that he had a question.

I wanted to share my communications that I had with this individual, as I think it might help many people.

I am literally going to copy & paste the emails back & forth.

Thanks a lot for the reply Phil,

Ahm sir me and my business partner are junior enterprenuer which just got out in school. We are aiming to start a web design and marketing company.
My business partner is a graduate of marketing and personal sales and I’m a graduate in New Media Design and Web development. Actually we will be graduating this April lol.

Speaking in our business we will start creating a business model and research this week and will show you what it is all about. Sir I know tweeter is a powerful tool in seeking donations.
If possible a simple tweet of donation linking to our donation page will be great. We need a small amount of money to start our business with. It would be a really great help for us
especially for us starter in this field.

For now sir will make our business goals first do some research and if everything is set we will let you know and will talk about this more further. I’m just giving you and idea and a head start.

My suggestion would be that you do not “ask for donations” via twitter. People don’t like to be sold on Twitter, and they definately do not like when people ask for donations (or at least not for a charitable cause).

Think of Twitter as one of your friends parties…. you don’t want to go to your friends house and 1) Start selling, selling, selling to everyone. People will think you’re an @$$hole. You also don’t want to go to a party and beg for money. Same deal…. the people at the party will not want to talk to you.

You’re going to have the same effect if you do this on Twitter…. people don’t want to be sold or ask for money. They will avoid you like the plague.

My suggestion would be to offer you services free of charge to several people who have alot of followers. Do an OUTSTANDING job, more or way better than you promised the person. Totally blow them out of the water (if you know what I mean). You would offer your services free…. but ask them (after the job is completed & they are blown away how well you did the job) to give you references on Twitter and other social marketing sites (like facebook & myspace).

You could maybe re-do peoples sites (again – Totally blow them out of the water) and ask them to put a blurb about you & your company on thier site. Also ask them if they would do a recommendation that you could post on your website for your company.

This type of bartering is WAY more effective to get the word out about you & your company, than begging for money from people on Twitter. Ya… you might not make any $$$ on the first few sites…. but you’ll save money on advertising, and the rewards of doing something like this are truely endless. Word of mouth is a powerful thing.

Depending on what type of websites or specialities you & your company are going to focus on…. is what type of people I would look for to do this bartering system with. For example…. If you are going to specialize in creating minisites or sales page type of websites… then do a search in Twitter for people launching new product (one’s that would need this type of service) and offer up your “offer” of free site for some references, etc. If you are offering SEO services, then do a simular search & do the same offer.

Again… the only way this will work well for you, is to totally hit it out of the ballpark when you do these sites or services. Doing a “so-so” job, you’re going to get a “so-so” reference. Also, you impress the heck out of them from the get go…. they are more likely to hire you for your services.
